The Wish
List
Our client
wanted to replace dated elements, utilize unused space, increase cabinet and
counter space and add a meal prep area to accommodate 2 adults and 2 children
who enjoy cooking. The client wanted a brighter, more functional kitchen with safer
traffic flow around appliances and a separate charging station for
electronics.
How We Did It
We
relocated a small bathroom and incorporated an unused space into the kitchen, which allowed for increased cabinetry,
countertop space and better traffic flow near appliances. A hidden panel
charging station, added to the peninsula, conceals electronics while they are
being charged.
Better Lighting
Lighting was
dramatically improved by removing a dark wood ceiling, replacing the garden
window, and adding an abundance of recessed and under-cabinet task lighting and
decorative pendants throughout the kitchen.
In-House Designer
Our Kitchen
Designer, Theresa O’Brien worked with our clients to select and coordinate all
of the elements including the beautiful cherry cabinetry with a Cocoa finish,
granite countertops, stainless pulls and the decorative backsplash and tile
design behind the range.

Amish Apple-Sour Cream
Pie
This time of
year, local orchards are bursting with apples just ready for picking. Enjoy the
autumn weather by visiting a local “pick-your-own” apple orchard and make this
delicious pie with your harvest! Unlike traditional apple pies, this one has a
crumb topping and a thick, custard-like middle filled with apple slices. And
it's very easy to make!
Ingredients
Filling
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 1/2 cups diced apples, peeled (tart apples work best)
Crumb topping
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
Directions
Beat sour cream and egg together until well blended. Add flour, sugar, salt and vanilla and mix until smooth. Stir in apple slices and pour into pie shell. Mix together brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and butter until the mixture becomes crumbly. Sprinkle over apple filling and bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes. Serve chilled.
